It’s that time of year again!  Pantone has announced the 2015 Color of the Year and we are loving their unique selection… Marsala! This rich wine hue will be gorgeous in wedding color palettes this next year.  We even have a few brides who are incorporating pops of this color into their peach and blush bouquets… it will be stunning and we cannot wait!

Here are some fun palette combinations suggested by Pantone :

Rustic Fall Orchard Wedding : Sarah + Ross

We had the privilege of working with Sarah and Ross to create their lovely fall wedding held at Cider Hill Family Orchard. What a treat it was to work at this intimate barn venue among all of the gorgeous fall colors and scents.  The apples were ripe for picking and the camp fire was burning for guests to enjoy.  What a fun day this was!  Thank you to Mary Verett for capturing the day in photos.

Soirée: When did you get started in your business and how did it begin?

Olive Events Catering: 2008. I went to culinary school and dabbled in catering while working at a local restaurant. I loved that every event was different – new location, new clients, new menus!

Soirée: What does the process look like for clients who work with you?

Olive Events Catering: Client relations is key to the success of our business. We host a private tasting for our clients and really get to know them. We have a greater understanding of what the most important aspects of the event are. When we meet one on one we can create the perfect event, start to finish.

Soirée: Describe your favorite wedding style.

Olive Events Catering: Our favorite wedding style is when the Bride and Groom use family traditions in unique modern ways. A recent Bride and her family love pies, so we baked hundreds of petite pies in several varieties including, Bourbon Pecan, Nectarine and Plum, Chocolate Silk and Apple.

Soirée: What is your favorite season of the year and why?

Olive Events Catering: My favorite wedding season is Fall. There is nothing prettier than an outdoor Fall wedding reception. People are excited when the season changes – pumpkins, apples, twigs, leaves, vibrant colors.

Soirée: Favorite reception cocktail?

Olive Events Catering: Seasonal cocktails that include infused liquors and herbs. We love Meyer lemon infused vodka with lavender syrup and thyme sprigs.

Soirée: What is quote you live by?

Olive Events Catering: “People rarely succeed unless they have fun in what they are doing” – Dale Carnegie

Soirée: What is your favorite part of a wedding? Ceremony or reception? Why?

Olive Events Catering: Believe it or not, our favorite part of the wedding is the ceremony. We are sentimental old softies 🙂 !!!

A BIG thank you to Olive Events for letting us feature them today! We love having the opportunity to collaborate together and they always do a phenomenal job with our clients!

One thing we can’t deny here in Kansas City are the INCREDIBLE colors we get to see during the Autumn season.  This year they’ve been absolutely stunning and with the Fall-themed weddings we’ve done this month…we’re loving color schemes with an emphasis on those traditional fall colors more than ever!  Today we’ve gathered some inspiration photos we love that pull of the fall color palette so well.  Enjoy!

Meet Our Fall Interns!

We recently completed our application process for our fall internship positions and we had such a great time getting to know some of the aspiring event planners in Kansas City! We are thrilled to have a great group of girls assisting us and learning alongside us this coming season. We thought you’d enjoy getting to know about them as well!  Let’s meet Loree, Katelyn and Evan!

Name: Loree Hazelrigg

College: William Jewell College

Interests & Hobbies: My tennis team, my sorority, I love working out and traveling.

Why were you interested in this internship? I was interested because I enjoy planning and I love weddings even more. It sounded like a good opportunity to use both interests.

What are you most excited about for this season? I am most excited to find out the ins and outs of wedding planning so I can help my friends when it’s their turn!

What’s one little known fact about you? I studied abroad in Spain for the summer between my sophomore and junior year!

Name: Katelyn Cavaleri

College: University of Missouri, Go Tigers!

Interests & Hobbies: Floral design, Crossfit, Typography, playing the drums, Pop Culture, Movies

Why were you interested in this internship?  I was interested in this internship to gain experience in the event planning industry all while cultivating skills in design and styling.

What are you most excited about for this season? I am most excited to see the hard work in planning come together at each event and getting to meet different kinds of couples and seeing their unique styles come to life.

What’s one little known fact about you? I know how to beat box!

Name: Evan Jones

College: William Jewell College

Interests & Hobbies: Running, chocolate, animals, traveling, Colorado

Why were you interested in this internship? Ever since I watched “The Wedding Planner” I have loved the idea of planning such a big day for someone. As I’ve grown professionally and personally I’ve delved into more of a corporate interest. This internship provides the possibility to look into one of the two and then develop my professional experiences.

What are you most excited about for this season? I’m excited to see how the process of planning events happens and learning how to produce quality events. I also think that brides and grooms are implementing their own personalities in their events, which will be exciting to see.

What’s one little known fact about you? I don’t like cheese in cube form.

We can’t wait for all of the fun and learning that is ahead for these girls!  Give them a warm welcome and leave them your well wishes in the comments below!

Meet Our Couples : Andrew and Catherine

Today we are thrilled to introduce you to one of our wonderful September couples, Andrew Lewis and Catherine Pogson! They are so sweet and we are really excited to work with them on their beautiful celebration next month!

Soirée : Where do you live?

A + C : Andrew and I are living with our families in Kansas City until our wedding in September. Andrew finished his degree in May, and I just completed mine at the end of July. We are still in study mode, as we both are in the middle of taking our board exams. After our honeymoon, we are moving to St. Louis. Andrew will begin his career at Deloitte, and I hope to work in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. We are excited for this adventure together in a new city!

Soirée : How did you meet?

A+C : Andrew’s family moved from Denver the summer before his senior year. We met in physics at Pembroke Hill, and he and his friends faithfully came to my volleyball games. I admired him from afar, but assumed he was out of my league since he was one year older than me! Little did I know he also had a crush on me. For the next few years, we remained friends and did not pursue each other until the timing was right. We started dating after my freshman year of college (his sophomore year). We dated long distance for three years, which strengthened our relationship so much. I went to Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, and Andrew went to University of Missouri (Mizzou) in Columbia, MO. As soon as I graduated in May 2013, I moved to Columbia to be with Andrew and to begin the Accelerated Nursing Program at Mizzou. We have cherished being able to see each other every day this past year!

Soirée : Tell us about your proposal?

A+C : Our proposal was simple and low key, which was exactly what I wanted! I flew home to spend Valentine’s Day weekend (2013) with Andrew. Since it had fallen on a weekday the past couple of years, this was our first Valentine’s Day together. We enjoyed a nice dinner at Houston’s on the Plaza, and Andrew proposed right after. It completely caught me off guard, especially since he assured me that he would never propose on a holiday. In my mind, I had eliminated Valentine’s Day as an option! He picked out the ring on his own, which was called the “Beethoven ring.” I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the last song I listened to on my flight home that Friday night was Beethoven’s No. 1 Symphony (I am a music nerd)!

Soirée : Describe your wedding vision

A+C : Seasonal, elegant, and original.

Soirée : What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?

A+C : Andrew and I are waiting to see each other, so we are most looking forward to seeing each other at the end of the aisle!

Soirée : Why did you choose to hire a wedding coordinator?

A+C : Since we have had a long engagement (over one year and a half), we have certainly had sufficient time to plan our wedding! We were attracted to the idea of planning the majority of the wedding on our own, yet wanted some extra assistance with all of the last minute details leading up to our wedding. The “month of” wedding coordinator package seemed like the perfect fit for us. Although we have not “officially” begun working with Lynsey, she has graciously answered all of our questions and has given us wonderful suggestions over the past year. We are so grateful that Lynsey will be able to tie all our loose ends during August and September!

Soirée : Do you have any words of wisdom for couples going through the planning process?

A+C : Savor this special time, focus on each other and try not to fret over the little details. Take the planning process one step (or vendor) at a time, instead of looking at your to-do list as whole. Everything will iron itself out!

Soirée : Anything else you’d like to share with your readers?

A+C : Talk about your wedding vision together, so that it reflects you as a couple (not just the bride)! As far as planning goes, discuss and honor each other’s top priorities. Andrew asked that his cousin bless our marriage, and I asked that my former cello teacher and her husband perform during our ceremony. It’s great to be able to incorporate both of our wishes into the service!

We love their outlook on this special time! Congratulations on your upcoming nuptials, Andrew and Catherine. We are looking forward to serving you in this final month!
