Rustic Fall Orchard Wedding : Sarah + Ross

We had the privilege of working with Sarah and Ross to create their lovely fall wedding held at Cider Hill Family Orchard. What a treat it was to work at this intimate barn venue among all of the gorgeous fall colors and scents.  The apples were ripe for picking and the camp fire was burning for guests to enjoy.  What a fun day this was!  Thank you to Mary Verett for capturing the day in photos.

Soirée: When did you get started in your business and how did it begin?

Olive Events Catering: 2008. I went to culinary school and dabbled in catering while working at a local restaurant. I loved that every event was different – new location, new clients, new menus!

10425011_10152573481341893_4888271878954489376_n

Soirée: What does the process look like for clients who work with you?

Olive Events Catering: Client relations is key to the success of our business. We host a private tasting for our clients and really get to know them. We have a greater understanding of what the most important aspects of the event are. When we meet one on one we can create the perfect event, start to finish.

Soirée: Describe your favorite wedding style.

Olive Events Catering: Our favorite wedding style is when the Bride and Groom use family traditions in unique modern ways. A recent Bride and her family love pies, so we baked hundreds of petite pies in several varieties including, Bourbon Pecan, Nectarine and Plum, Chocolate Silk and Apple.

Soirée: What is your favorite season of the year and why?

Olive Events Catering: My favorite wedding season is Fall. There is nothing prettier than an outdoor Fall wedding reception. People are excited when the season changes – pumpkins, apples, twigs, leaves, vibrant colors.

Soirée: Favorite reception cocktail?

Olive Events Catering: Seasonal cocktails that include infused liquors and herbs. We love Meyer lemon infused vodka with lavender syrup and thyme sprigs.

Soirée: What is your favorite part of a wedding? Ceremony or reception? Why?

Olive Events Catering: Believe it or not, our favorite part of the wedding is the ceremony. We are sentimental old softies 🙂 !!!

A BIG thank you to Olive Events for letting us feature them today! We love having the opportunity to collaborate together and they always do a phenomenal job with our clients!

Crazy for Cakes!

Textured cakes, floral details, cake toppers and ribbon borders…. whatever you choose can add the perfect dose of personality to your event.  Today we’re exploring some fun and unique ideas for a decorated wedding cake that we think you’ll enjoy!

Vendor Feature : Be Chic Bride

One of the coolest parts of our job?  Connecting with other fabulous wedding vendors in Kansas City! There is nothing more fun than having a client fall in love with a vendor that you have suggested for them and we are so lucky to work with some of Kansas City’s best.  Mikayla and Breanna of Be Chic Bride are one of our very talented hair and makeup artists that focus specifically on brides and bridal parties!

Let’s get to know them, shall we?

Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 3.09.41 PM Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 3.09.20 PM

Soirée : How many years have you been in business and how did you get started?

Be Chic Bride : We have been in business for 7 years. Growing up in a family of all girls, we’ve always had plenty of “models” to practice hair and makeup on. But after having worked for a few years for another business in this same field, we felt it was time for us to make it our own. We started BeChic with the idea of truly letting the bride be pampered on her wedding day. We want our brides to not have to worry about going to a salon, late appointments before them, traffic, getting a stylist who maybe doesn’t do wedding hair or makeup every day, being apart from your bridal party while you are getting all glammed up, etc.  Our passion in the beauty industry is specific to weddings. We LOVE them! We love everything about them.  (Truth be told, I’m pretty sure we have about 5 “vow renewal” ceremonies planned on Pinterest. Now if we can only talk our husbands into spending a few hundred thousand dollars…)

Our team of hand-picked stylists do all of our trainings throughout the year on hair and makeup education that specifically relates to anything a bride might need for her wedding day look. Plainly said, we know what works, what lasts and what’s gonna make that camera love every angle of you! After all, a bride spends a good portion of her budget on photography and videography (and that GORGEOUS frock!), so why wouldn’t you want to “complete the package” with professional hair and makeup??

Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 3.11.54 PM

Soirée : What does the process look like for brides that work with you?

Be Chic Bride : Where it really all begins for each bride with us is their trial run. We want to hear all about her wedding. What she has envisioned for her wedding day look since she was 5, what the flowers are going to be, the colors, the DRESS, how she and her Mr. met, what unique touches they will have to their day that maybe only the two of them will understand, the list goes on and on.

This is the bride’s opportunity to really find out what flawless look compliments everything about them, their style and will inevitably knock their groom’s socks off! We do find sometimes that a bride will come in with certain pictures that are on all ends of the “spectrum”, if you will. She gets to try them all out and see what looks best on her. And more often than not, a bride will end up choosing a look she didn’t think she would.

After a bride’s trial, if she chooses to book with us, we go over the contract and specifics for her big day. From then on, we make sure we are available to whatever she may need before her wedding day.

When the amazing day is finally here, we are always on time to wherever the bride has decided that everyone is getting ready. This is the fun part! We get to meet all her best friends, sisters, mom(s) and sometimes (if we’re lucky) we even get to meet the Mr.!

Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 3.15.03 PM

Soirée : Describe your favorite wedding style.

Be Chic Bride :

Mikayla: Oh gosh. While we’re sisters and a lot of our style ends up being very similar, I would have to say that I am a hopeless romantic. So something very traditional with lots of shabby chic florals and definitely some braids goin’ on somewhere. (Although, my own wedding was 1940’s old Hollywood complete with white dinner jackets, bowties, red-carpet, period-inspired bridesmaids gowns and some good ‘ole Frank Sinatra. I do LOVE a red lip!)

Breanna: Wedding styles are always changing and it is so fun to get to see when a bride jumps out of the “Midwest box” and does something modern. I love a runway-style gown with lots of sleek, artistic lines. The loft setting for a ceremony or reception has to be my favorite.  (But if Ikea ever starts doing weddings, I’m TOTALLY there!)

Soirée : Favorite Reception Cocktail?

Be Chic Bride : Hmm…. This is a hard one. We don’t usually stay for the wedding ceremony or reception so we don’t typically get to try the “signature drink”.  Something very sweet though. We both have a BAD sweet tooth!

Screen Shot 2014-06-20 at 3.12.31 PM

Soirée : What is your favorite part of a wedding?

Be Chic Bride :  Ahhh! SO MANY!!!

The part where Dad looks at his little girl all dressed and ready to begin a new family and realizes she’s all grown up and ready to be someone’s wife.

When the groom sees his bride for the first time coming toward him ready to give him her everything.

A mom gushing about how much she loves her new son-in-law and how she is so blessed that her daughter found a wonderful man, and how she can’t wait to see them grow together.

Soirée : What is a quote you live by?

Be Chic Bride :  It’s hard to pick even just a couple! 1)   Love the Lord your God with all your Heart, Soul and Mind. 2)   “Never promise more than you can deliver. But always deliver more than you promised”- Lou Holtz

Thank you so much Mikayla and Breanna for letting us gush on you for our readers! We love y’all!

Kansas City Wedding at the Midland : Chelsea and Andrew

A wedding day can be very bittersweet for a wedding planner.  On Chelsea and Andrew’s wedding day I was thrilled that they were beginning this next chapter of their lives together, but I was also so sad that it meant the conclusion of my time serving them!

Their February wedding brought beautiful sunshine and an incredible party!  Freeland Photography captured each moment so beautifully as you will see in the photos below.  Chelsea and Andrew Karle, thank you for letting me play a small part in this wonderful day! – Madi Sanders

Modern Indian Bridal Inspiration Shoot

With interest in honoring tradition while expressing modern taste, we wanted to showcase the perfect juxtaposition of Indian bridal elegance paired with a contemporary black and white palette. The importance of bright color in the attire and accessories was able to stand out against floral arrangements and garlands composed of of whites and creams. The beautiful Amigoni Winery located in the heart of Kansas City served as a beautiful slate for this vision to come to life.

Meet Our Couple : Jenna + Aaron

Each couple has an incredible story that is unique to them. Through our many conversations getting to know each of our couples, we are able to help them create a wedding that is also unique to them. We are excited to begin a new blog series featuring some of our wonderful clients.  Grab a cup of coffee (or glass of wine) and join us as we share a bit about our October bride and groom, Jenna + Aaron.

2014-03-17_0015How did you meet?

From J+A : It’s hard to imagine now, but there was a time before Aaron had a Twitter account. It was long before the word ‘selfie’ became part of our cultural lexicon; before Instagram; before the second-gen iPhone was even a thing. It was a time when Tumblr was still a cool blogging platform for twentysomthings — in an era where ‘cool’ and ‘blogging platform’ belonged in the same sentence.

It was 2007, and Aaron and Jenna each had a blog on Tumblr. They were avid readers of each others’ writing (we’ll use ‘writing’ loosely) and gleefully left snarky comments for one another. She thought he was cute; he thought she was the most hilarious and charming person on the whole wide Internet. Then they started emailing. Emails turned to instant messages. IMs turned to texts and phone calls. In 2008, they met in person and nobody turned out to be a serial killer.

One year and many LGA > KCI flights later, Jenna moved from NYC to Kansas City to live in Aaron’s loft.

Soon, they got a cat. And now they’re getting married.

Where do you live?

From J+A: Dallas, TX2014-03-17_00142014-03-17_0037Why did you decide to plan your wedding in KC?

From J+A: Four years of our relationship unfolded in KC; it’s where we starting building our life together. We have memories around every corner, and we’ve always wanted to showcase the city for our non-KC friends and family. Also, Aaron likes the beer and Jenna likes the cookies.

Tell us about your proposal.

From J+A: The long version is here. The short version: Jenna works for Pizza Hut’s corporate headquarters, so Aaron worked with her colleagues to stage a seemingly-routine product taste test in the middle of the workday. After a couple slices of pizza, Jenna was served a ring on a paper plate and Aaron came out of the kitchen and got down on one knee.2014-03-17_00022014-03-17_0003Describe your wedding vision in three words.

From J+A: Modern, glam, ours.

What are you most looking forward to on your wedding day?

From J+A: Jenna: Seeing each other for the first time from opposite ends of the aisle. (And cake.) Aaron: Celebrating with the people who mean so much to us and also the cake.2014-03-17_0019 2014-03-17_0018Why did you choose to hire a wedding planner?

From J+A: The obvious: Since we’re planning a KC wedding from Dallas, we needed someone on the ground to help us execute our vision, wrangle the budget, meet with vendors, etc. The not-so-obvious: neither of us quite have the right personality for wedding planning. Jenna is a detail-obsessed, disorganized second-guesser, Aaron is a quick decision-maker who trusts that things will take care of themselves. That’s a winning combination in life, but not during the stressful planning process. Madi has helped us navigate the biggest decisions together, and she moonlights as our bridal therapist.

Do you have any words of wisdom for other couples going through the planning process?

From J+A: Stop and get excited. You’re getting married. It’s the coolest. Beyond that: You do you. Our wedding isn’t trendy or full of DIY, shabby-chic details. It’s also not an ultra-elegant ballroom wedding. It’s our own pretty custom frankenbaby. It’s easy to second-guess your ideas when you see a million different things on blogs or in photos; remember to stay true to what you’d always envisioned and forget the Pins. 2014-03-17_0023Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?

From J+A: Be patient. Don’t make hasty decisions about your venue, your dress, your photographer, your guest list or your anything because you think you need to get it done right away. You’ve got time. And when you’re running out of time, your planner will let you know. Nicely.2014-03-17_0035

Really, how lucky are we to get to work with Jenna and Aaron as they plan their special day?  We are really looking forward to helping their vision come to life to allow them to soak in every moment and celebrate their life together.

Until next time,

“Why Every Girl Should Hire a Wedding Planner” according to Kansas City bride, Heather Jacques

Here at Soirée Event Designs we get a lot of inquiries from brides who are totally capable of handling most of their wedding planning.  They are organized, have a vision for their day and have many family members and friends ready to help out in any way they might need. Soon after diving into their planning they come to the conclusion that planning a wedding can actually take a lot of their time and it can start to feel like a second job amongst their already busy schedules.  That’s where we come in. We want to be able to allow brides the time to celebrate their engagements and their upcoming marriage with full confidence that the wedding will be planned beautifully and according to their vision.

Today one of our sweet brides, Heather Jacques, is sharing her input on why she has chosen to hire Soirée Event Designs to help her execute her vision for the wedding day and why she thinks every girl should consider doing the same.

IMG_4203-X3

From Heather:

I think every girl dreams of the day they will be engaged and all the special moments their “big day” might hold. For me, I loved to dream and envision that magical moment that I prayed would happen someday.

Ryan and I got engaged on October 18, 2013. I loved being engaged but all the sudden I felt nervous, unprepared, unorganized  and unable to attain those hopes and dreams I had created in my head…because now it was REALLY happening. Decisions are easier made when they aren’t really real. 🙂

After only being engaged for two days, I knew that we needed a planner of some type. It was my Dad’s extra push that led us to a consultation with Madi Sanders from Soirée Event Designs. To be honest I was fearful of our first meeting. Would she be able to get a sense of my style? Would she understand the look we were going for our big day? Would she push ideas onto us? All the unknowns were floating around in my head.

But let me tell you what. I am so thankful for that day in October when my mom and I sat down with Madi. It was one of those moments when you meet someone and it all seems to good to be true. She was energetic, full of ideas (even better than my own!), organized and truly passionate about her job. We had an instant connection. So much so that immediately I could trust her with our BIG DAY.
IMG_4399-X3

It’s only December and we’ve only met a handful of times but our wedding day is becoming so much of what I had envisioned with Madi’s help. She takes our ideas, finds vendors that have the perfect fit and all the while, is totally open to the things we want to do. If we have a dream, Madi makes it happen. I’ve been so pleased and stress-free (are you happy mr. right?). I’ve taken no time from my day job to make any boring vendor calls (which Madi adores), I haven’t had to schedule one meetings and most importantly, I get to choose how much we are involved. It has truly been the perfect fit for us.

Thinking of all the great things Madi is helping us do now, I am so happy knowing Ryan and I have had no stress or pressures and have really gotten to enjoy being an engaged couple. What’s even more exciting is that during our rehearsal and on the BIG DAY my mom, dad and bridesmaids get to sit back and take in the day with me instead of running around setting things up, organizing and coordinating people when are to start. I am so thankful we all get to enjoy that special day together!

IMG_4186-X3

This process has been an enjoyable, exciting time and I definitely owe it all to Madi at Soirée Events Designs helping us achieve our wishes while listening to our special wants and needs and finding a way to make them all happen. We are blessed to be walking this journey with such a delightful person.

Heather and Ryan will be married on September 27, 2014 here in Kansas City.  We are so pleased to be helping them throughout this process and are so thankful that they are entrusting us with this special celebration. If you are interested in learning more about how we can help you to see your wedding dreams come to life, please contact us at info@soireeeventdesigns.com for a complimentary consultation.

Kansas City Vendor Spotlight : Megan Ibarra with Little Yellow Leaf

Today we are excited to introduce to you our newest feature, Kansas City Vendor Spotlight!  Megan Ibarra, owner of Little Yellow Leaf, was so kind to share a bit about herself, her business and processes. Sit a spell and read about how she assists brides and grooms with the paper details included in their day!

Little Yellow Leaf-9

Name: Megan Ibarra with Little Yellow Leaf

Years in business: Coming up on 3!

lyl_2

How did you get started in your business? It started and grew very organically. I have a background in Interior Design and have always enjoyed art, design, typography, etc. When it came time for my wedding in 2009, I knew I wanted to create all of the paper details. From there, I was in love. What began as doing pieces for friends, grew to friends of friends, and I have been lucky enough to connect with some amazing vendors in Kansas City that have led to wonderful referrals. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

Little Yellow Leaf-10lyl_1

What does the process look like for clients who work with you? I try to keep this as easy, light and as fun as possible! I know wedding planning can seem stressful for some, and it’s always my goal for this to be a fun and creative outlet for the couple. We’ll start by meeting for a consultation. This is a perfect time for me to get to know the couple and their wedding style, as well as take a look at past samples, paper swatches, etc. As most everything is designed custom, the couple is never picking a generic design from a binder but looking at past samples really helps give a visual of what their suite could look like. After our meeting I’ll follow up with a quote and when they’re ready to begin, we’ll start the design and proofing process! I’ll normally start with 3-4 designs digitally, and we’ll just converse back and forth until the design is perfect. And if we don’t select card stocks during the consult, I’ll always make sure we do another quick meet up prior to production, or send swatches for the couple for them to select. Surprise are fun, but not when it comes to your Invitation details 🙂 After the design of each piece is approved and signed o”, the suite will go into production and then packed up and ready for delivery!

littleyellowleafdesk

Describe your favorite wedding style: This is tough! I find myself falling in love with all kinds of different styles. I love a lot of great color and a style that includes an eclectic mix of fun (and sometimes quirky) personal details from the couple. I once did day of details for a wedding that was overall very classic, and we used hot pink elephant graphics in the Escort Cards and Table Numbers. The couple both had the same hilarious elephant joke book when they were younger and had them on display at the entry. Sounds crazy, right? The result was fantastic and fit right in with the beautifully elegant pink florals and classic table settings. The Escort Cards had the question of the joke, and the guests found the punch line on the Table Number of their assigned table. It so wonderful that they wanted to include such a cute and personal detail of their childhood and relationship and I was happy to do so.

Favorite season of the year and why? Fall. The rich colors, the crisp magic in the air, and pumpkin EVERYTHING. 🙂

Little Yellow Leaf-10

Favorite reception cocktail: This may seem a little boring, but you can never go wrong with a good glass of red wine.

Quote you live by: “Today my love, we shall let the world slide, for we will never be younger again.” And most recently – the entire Holstee Manifesto.

Little Yellow Leaf-18

Favorite part of a wedding? Ceremony or reception? Can I answer that they’re both my favorite? 🙂 I love the intimate nature of the ceremony and the pronouncement of Mr. and Mrs. for the first time. And the reception to celebrate the happy couple, mingle and dance the night away. (Okay..and to oogle over all the wonderful design and decor that went into the occasion 🙂 )

A BIG thank you to Megan for participating in this lovely interview!  We love working with her on special projects for our brides and grooms, such as this Save the Date example for our Soirée client’s upcoming nuptials!
