We love to show love for the great vendors that help make our events a success for our brides and grooms! Today we’re showcasing the talents of Olive Events Catering!  We’re sure that after this read…your mouth will be watering!

Soirée: When did you get started in your business and how did it begin?

Olive Events Catering: 2008. I went to culinary school and dabbled in catering while working at a local restaurant. I loved that every event was different – new location, new clients, new menus!

Soirée: What does the process look like for clients who work with you?

Olive Events Catering: Client relations is key to the success of our business. We host a private tasting for our clients and really get to know them. We have a greater understanding of what the most important aspects of the event are. When we meet one on one we can create the perfect event, start to finish.

Soirée: Describe your favorite wedding style.

Olive Events Catering: Our favorite wedding style is when the Bride and Groom use family traditions in unique modern ways. A recent Bride and her family love pies, so we baked hundreds of petite pies in several varieties including, Bourbon Pecan, Nectarine and Plum, Chocolate Silk and Apple.

Soirée: What is your favorite season of the year and why?

Olive Events Catering: My favorite wedding season is Fall. There is nothing prettier than an outdoor Fall wedding reception. People are excited when the season changes – pumpkins, apples, twigs, leaves, vibrant colors.

Soirée: Favorite reception cocktail?

Olive Events Catering: Seasonal cocktails that include infused liquors and herbs. We love Meyer lemon infused vodka with lavender syrup and thyme sprigs.

Soirée: What is quote you live by?

Soirée: What is your favorite part of a wedding? Ceremony or reception? Why?

Olive Events Catering: Believe it or not, our favorite part of the wedding is the ceremony. We are sentimental old softies 🙂 !!!

Kansas City Venue Spotlight : The Gallery Event Space

With so many great venues in the KC area, we’ve decided to highlight a few of our favorites as a part of a new series, “Kansas City VENUE Spotlight”! Today, our intern Loree is sharing with us information on the incredible Gallery Event Space.

The Gallery Event Space is a classic and timeless venue for any seasonal wedding. It has unique features such as floor to ceiling windows and a balcony that is overlooking the Power and Light District of Kansas City.

This incredible space can accommodate up to 400 seated guests and 600 guests in a cocktail style. The venue offers LED lighting around the ceiling with customized color options. The Gallery Event Space has 9,000 square feet to offer and will include certain features to help make your event more successful. Some of those features include: round banquet tables, cocktail tables, and portable bars.

House chairs, standard black and white linens, china, silverware, and bar glassware are also included. Some of the other great items they will provide are skirted staging, projectors and the screen, wireless microphones, lapel microphones, and the house sound system. The Gallery Event Space will even provide onsite catering and the Lounge Package to all those who book an event with them.  To help make the event seamless, an Event Planner will also be provided to help with all the finer details.

Vendor Feature : Be Chic Bride

One of the coolest parts of our job?  Connecting with other fabulous wedding vendors in Kansas City! There is nothing more fun than having a client fall in love with a vendor that you have suggested for them and we are so lucky to work with some of Kansas City’s best.  Mikayla and Breanna of Be Chic Bride are one of our very talented hair and makeup artists that focus specifically on brides and bridal parties!

Let’s get to know them, shall we?

Soirée : How many years have you been in business and how did you get started?

Be Chic Bride : We have been in business for 7 years. Growing up in a family of all girls, we’ve always had plenty of “models” to practice hair and makeup on. But after having worked for a few years for another business in this same field, we felt it was time for us to make it our own. We started BeChic with the idea of truly letting the bride be pampered on her wedding day. We want our brides to not have to worry about going to a salon, late appointments before them, traffic, getting a stylist who maybe doesn’t do wedding hair or makeup every day, being apart from your bridal party while you are getting all glammed up, etc.  Our passion in the beauty industry is specific to weddings. We LOVE them! We love everything about them.  (Truth be told, I’m pretty sure we have about 5 “vow renewal” ceremonies planned on Pinterest. Now if we can only talk our husbands into spending a few hundred thousand dollars…)

Our team of hand-picked stylists do all of our trainings throughout the year on hair and makeup education that specifically relates to anything a bride might need for her wedding day look. Plainly said, we know what works, what lasts and what’s gonna make that camera love every angle of you! After all, a bride spends a good portion of her budget on photography and videography (and that GORGEOUS frock!), so why wouldn’t you want to “complete the package” with professional hair and makeup??

Soirée : What does the process look like for brides that work with you?

Be Chic Bride : Where it really all begins for each bride with us is their trial run. We want to hear all about her wedding. What she has envisioned for her wedding day look since she was 5, what the flowers are going to be, the colors, the DRESS, how she and her Mr. met, what unique touches they will have to their day that maybe only the two of them will understand, the list goes on and on.

This is the bride’s opportunity to really find out what flawless look compliments everything about them, their style and will inevitably knock their groom’s socks off! We do find sometimes that a bride will come in with certain pictures that are on all ends of the “spectrum”, if you will. She gets to try them all out and see what looks best on her. And more often than not, a bride will end up choosing a look she didn’t think she would.

After a bride’s trial, if she chooses to book with us, we go over the contract and specifics for her big day. From then on, we make sure we are available to whatever she may need before her wedding day.

When the amazing day is finally here, we are always on time to wherever the bride has decided that everyone is getting ready. This is the fun part! We get to meet all her best friends, sisters, mom(s) and sometimes (if we’re lucky) we even get to meet the Mr.!

Soirée : Describe your favorite wedding style.

Be Chic Bride :

Mikayla: Oh gosh. While we’re sisters and a lot of our style ends up being very similar, I would have to say that I am a hopeless romantic. So something very traditional with lots of shabby chic florals and definitely some braids goin’ on somewhere. (Although, my own wedding was 1940’s old Hollywood complete with white dinner jackets, bowties, red-carpet, period-inspired bridesmaids gowns and some good ‘ole Frank Sinatra. I do LOVE a red lip!)

Breanna: Wedding styles are always changing and it is so fun to get to see when a bride jumps out of the “Midwest box” and does something modern. I love a runway-style gown with lots of sleek, artistic lines. The loft setting for a ceremony or reception has to be my favorite.  (But if Ikea ever starts doing weddings, I’m TOTALLY there!)

Soirée : Favorite Reception Cocktail?

Be Chic Bride : Hmm…. This is a hard one. We don’t usually stay for the wedding ceremony or reception so we don’t typically get to try the “signature drink”.  Something very sweet though. We both have a BAD sweet tooth!

Soirée : What is your favorite part of a wedding?

Be Chic Bride :  Ahhh! SO MANY!!!

The part where Dad looks at his little girl all dressed and ready to begin a new family and realizes she’s all grown up and ready to be someone’s wife.

When the groom sees his bride for the first time coming toward him ready to give him her everything.

A mom gushing about how much she loves her new son-in-law and how she is so blessed that her daughter found a wonderful man, and how she can’t wait to see them grow together.

Soirée : What is a quote you live by?

Be Chic Bride :  It’s hard to pick even just a couple! 1)   Love the Lord your God with all your Heart, Soul and Mind. 2)   “Never promise more than you can deliver. But always deliver more than you promised”- Lou Holtz

Kansas City Vendor Spotlight : Megan Ibarra with Little Yellow Leaf

Today we are excited to introduce to you our newest feature, Kansas City Vendor Spotlight!  Megan Ibarra, owner of Little Yellow Leaf, was so kind to share a bit about herself, her business and processes. Sit a spell and read about how she assists brides and grooms with the paper details included in their day!

How did you get started in your business? It started and grew very organically. I have a background in Interior Design and have always enjoyed art, design, typography, etc. When it came time for my wedding in 2009, I knew I wanted to create all of the paper details. From there, I was in love. What began as doing pieces for friends, grew to friends of friends, and I have been lucky enough to connect with some amazing vendors in Kansas City that have led to wonderful referrals. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

What does the process look like for clients who work with you? I try to keep this as easy, light and as fun as possible! I know wedding planning can seem stressful for some, and it’s always my goal for this to be a fun and creative outlet for the couple. We’ll start by meeting for a consultation. This is a perfect time for me to get to know the couple and their wedding style, as well as take a look at past samples, paper swatches, etc. As most everything is designed custom, the couple is never picking a generic design from a binder but looking at past samples really helps give a visual of what their suite could look like. After our meeting I’ll follow up with a quote and when they’re ready to begin, we’ll start the design and proofing process! I’ll normally start with 3-4 designs digitally, and we’ll just converse back and forth until the design is perfect. And if we don’t select card stocks during the consult, I’ll always make sure we do another quick meet up prior to production, or send swatches for the couple for them to select. Surprise are fun, but not when it comes to your Invitation details 🙂 After the design of each piece is approved and signed o”, the suite will go into production and then packed up and ready for delivery!

Describe your favorite wedding style: This is tough! I find myself falling in love with all kinds of different styles. I love a lot of great color and a style that includes an eclectic mix of fun (and sometimes quirky) personal details from the couple. I once did day of details for a wedding that was overall very classic, and we used hot pink elephant graphics in the Escort Cards and Table Numbers. The couple both had the same hilarious elephant joke book when they were younger and had them on display at the entry. Sounds crazy, right? The result was fantastic and fit right in with the beautifully elegant pink florals and classic table settings. The Escort Cards had the question of the joke, and the guests found the punch line on the Table Number of their assigned table. It so wonderful that they wanted to include such a cute and personal detail of their childhood and relationship and I was happy to do so.

Favorite season of the year and why? Fall. The rich colors, the crisp magic in the air, and pumpkin EVERYTHING. 🙂

Favorite part of a wedding? Ceremony or reception? Can I answer that they’re both my favorite? 🙂 I love the intimate nature of the ceremony and the pronouncement of Mr. and Mrs. for the first time. And the reception to celebrate the happy couple, mingle and dance the night away. (Okay..and to oogle over all the wonderful design and decor that went into the occasion 🙂 )
